We had our only big week of guests end a week ago here at Keuka Lake: Julie’s brothers and their spouses, and our sons and their spouses. Plus one grandson.

Fall weather has come early to us here, so our lake time had less water activity than usual. So there was more golfing, more boardgame playing; less tubing and waterskiing.

Jacob and I had a great sail on his arrival day, with aggressive winds that led to a capsize and a challenging recovery. Good experience to navigate through. We also got Rory out on the water on his final full day here: in the canoe, in the kayak, and floating on the tube in our cove.

Dreamland style ribs Dreamland style ribs

I orchestrated a big bbq day: brisket, ribs two ways, smoked mac & cheese, green beans. The ribs were done in contrasting ways: slow smoked with a sweet Memphis style rub, and fast cooked with simple salt and pepper over an open fire. I accumulated 10,000 steps that day without ever leading the cottage grounds.

Of course we had so much quality time with Rory. He’s got some words going (“uh-oh”, “yeah”) and is still obsessed with ceiling fans. Looking forward to the fall and winter months living close by.
