I’ve been primarily a read-only user of Twitter for the past few years. With the recent excitement on the bird site, I renewed my exploration of Mastodon.

It remains to be seen how engaged I’ll stay there. Twitter has a critical mass of engaged folks that I like to follow, primarily focused on golf and wargames. A wee bit of politics. So far I’m seeing a lot of tech folks (Python community, FOSS zealots) migrating there, and a few notable folks. But networks need critical mass, and I’m not sure the fediverse will get there.

Joining Mastodon (and finding a home server) isn’t trivial if you aren’t a techie and weren’t invited to a specific community. This needs to improve too.
