Functional Fitness and Tesla Charging
About two years ago we added a home charging option at Keuka Lake for our Tesla Y.
Charging setup at Keuka
We have no driveway, and no nearby roadside parking on Hwy 54a. Our normal parking spot now (thank you neighbors) is across the road in a flat area over a gully culvert.
The culvert is (usually) open enough to crouch and walk through. It is about 50-60 ft end to end. We had an electrician put in a 50a outlet ($150) on the corner of our grey cottage nearest the gully, and bought a $175 100 ft charging cable. We keep it stored in a plastic crate during the summer, “secured” with a bike lock through the cable ends and some house conduit.
Charging is a chore, dropping the Tesla side cable down into the gully and then dragging the heavy extension cord end from the cottage, through the culvert, and attaching it to the Tesla end. If the weather isn’t too hot we get about 40 miles/hour of charging.
Last summer we had a major storm that washed out the gully and filled the culvert with gravel and silt to a level that we couldn’t even walk through. Barely crawl through. Thankfully we could use plan B and park across the creek in our neighbor access path. The gully has since been cleared thanks to some earth moving by our neighbor and some helpful gully washers.
