Hunting Garnets Near Ely NV

We arrived in Ely early enough to go do some rock hounding.

Just west of Ely NV is a hill / mountain called Garnet Hill that is host to ruby red semiprecious garnets. We only had a short time before sunset but made the most of it.

It is worth the drive up just for the views.

We didn’t have tools like hammers or picks but found these by searching the ground. Lots of false positives with charcoal but it our efforts paid off. These will make some nice gifts for someone.
