The Roger Ebert collection of critics just published their individual top 10 movies of the year. This is good discovery material for Julie and me, so I figured I’d make a composite of their list.

2. Sinners (Ryan Coogler) – Vampire film set in 1932 Mississippi Delta starring Michael B. Jordan.
3. It Was Just an Accident (Jafar Panahi) – Palme d’Or winner. Thriller from the Iranian master filmmaker.
4. Sorry, Baby (Eva Victor) – Black comedy-drama marking Victor’s directorial debut. Starring Victor and Naomi Watts.
5. The Secret Agent (Kleber Mendonça Filho) – Neo-noir political thriller set during Brazil’s military dictatorship. Wagner Moura won Best Actor at Cannes.
6. Train Dreams (Clint Bentley) – Adaptation of Denis Johnson’s novella. Stars Joel Edgerton. Released on Netflix.
7. Sentimental Value (Joachim Trier) – Won Grand Prix at Cannes. Stars Renate Reinsve and Stellan Skarsgård.
8. If I Had Legs I’d Kick You (Mary Bronstein) – Rose Byrne won Silver Bear at Berlin. A24 release.
9. Frankenstein (Guillermo del Toro) – Gothic adaptation starring Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi. Netflix release.
10. My Undesirable Friends: Part I – Last Air in Moscow (Julia Loktev) – 5+ hour documentary on Russian independent journalists. 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
