The Hearty Desert Juniper

We’ve been stepping up our desert plant identification but remain infatuated with the ultra common desert juniper. We love the gnarled roots and trunks, and as you see in the photo they are able to shut off parts if their branch system as a survival tactic. The berries aren’t — those are the cones wrapped in a waxy blue coating.
